As a general rule: your belt size should be approximately 2 inches larger than your trouser waist size. So a man wearing 32-inch trousers will typically wear a 34-inch belt. But the most reliable method is to measure directly.
How to Measure Your Belt Size at Home
Method 1: Measure an Existing Belt (Most Accurate)
- Take a belt that currently fits you well.
- Lay it flat on a table.
- Measure from the buckle pin (the point where the pin passes through the leather) to the hole you most commonly use.
- This measurement in inches is your belt size.
Method 2: Measure Your Waist Directly
- Use a fabric measuring tape and wrap it around your waist at the position where you wear your belt — typically just above the hip bone.
- Note the measurement in inches.
- Add 2 inches to this measurement. This is your recommended belt size.
